Where does the hegemonic masculinity that permeates us as a society come from and how has it changed since Antiquity? Who were the first sexists in history? What historical examples do we have of masculinities that confronted the norm? How has the concept of masculine evolved over the centuries?
Comes back Fucking Mikel to tell us how “History repeats itself” and how we have not stopped stumbling over the same stones throughout the history of Humanity. For the theme of this program we go down to hell, since it is at the base and foundations of our culture: masculinity.
Of gladiators and gym-bro, In this program we focus on those aspects of masculinity that we see from Antiquity to today and how they have changed to end up justifying the same thing: the supremacy of men, or of some at least, power dynamics and inequality. A historical journey in which we also talk about those other masculinities that were built and how they faced the hegemonic.
A path that we also trace with Darina Martykanovádoctor in history and professor at the UAM and coordinator together with Marie Walin of the book “Being a Man: Masculinities in 19th Century Spain”, and with Alfredo Ramosdoctor in political science, researcher at the Institute of Policies and Public Goods of the CSIC, and author of the book “Perforar las masculinidades” (Bellaterra).
