Rodrigo Buenaventura leaves the National Markets and Securities Commission. The current president of the CNMV will end his term on December 16 and will join the Council of the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) as general secretary.
Until the end of his first term as president of the Spanish organization, Buenaventura will continue to perform his duties as head of the CNMV “with complete normality, ensuring the normal functioning and decision-making of the CNMV,” as reported in the statement.
This appointment not only represents a leap in Buenaventura’s professional career, but also demonstrates the relevance and influence of the organization and the Spanish financial markets within the international arena. IOSCO is the global stock market supervisor and brings together up to 130 securities commissions around the world, which are in charge of regulation and supervise up to 95% of the world’s financial markets. Now, Buenaventura will be the new secretary general of this international organization and will be in charge of directing it, representing it externally and advising both the Council and the president. His mandate will last for three years with the possibility of renewal.
