The Ford factory has convened this afternoon the works council of Almussafes, the largest industrial complex in Valencia, to negotiate tomorrow a temporary employment regulation file (Erte) due to “force majeure” after the central government has approved this formula to face the catastrophe generated by the cold drop in Valencia.
The Valencian plant had already stopped last Tuesday, October 29, in the afternoon-night its activity in the face of floods and the massive alert in the entire southern area of the metropolitan area of Valencia, very close to where it is located and where many of its workers come from. In fact, Its facilities housed hundreds of employees that night. who could not go to their homes for safety reasons.
Added to this was that during this week shutdown days have been applied within the Erte that the car factory maintains until the end of the year due to the sharp decrease in its production by maintaining a single model in its assembly lines, the kuga.
As explained in a statement by UGT, the majority union of Ford Spain, the “dramatic moment we are experiencing does not require arguments to demand that Ford complement 100% of all salary conceptswhile said ERTE is in force.” In the current ERTE, workers receive 85% of their real salary, along with 100% of pay, vacations and seniority.
Staff situation
The union has indicated that, so far, It has been possible to contact “practically 100%” of the staff after the DANA. “We are all still alive, with greater or lesser losses and difficulties,” says the UGT statement. At Ford manufacturing facilities they work more than 4,000 peoplealthough with the application of the Erte nearly a thousand do not currently attend. The union hopes to be able to communicate in the coming days when activity will recover.
Last July, Ford and UGT agreed to an ERTE for 996 workers until December, with 25 days of total stoppage. This ERTE is added to the ERE for 626 employees that was agreed upon shortly before.
Ford had already made clear its intention to use this measure and as it was made public today at least 75 other companies in Valencia have also requested to benefit from the force majeure Erte.
From the association of the Valencian auxiliary automotive industry, AVIAit has been reported that many companies “due to the magnitude of the damage, it is impossible for them to accurately estimate when they will be able to resume their activity.” Damage that amounts to tens of millions of euros.
