Hundreds of residents of Madrid They have started going this Saturday to the collection points for essential products that the capital’s City Council has enabled to collaborate with those affected by the DANA that has affected Spain since this Tuesday.
The vice mayor of the capital attended one of these spaces, the one on Santa Engracia Street, Inmaculada Sanzand the delegate of Urban Planning, Environment and Mobility, Borja Carabantewho have pointed out to the media that already “hundreds of tons” have been collected if what is received by all the authorized venues is added.
In this sense, Sanz highlighted that this Friday many residents continued arriving at different collection areas beyond the stipulated hours (from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.). “That schedule had to be extended. precisely because of the number of people there and to not leave anyone who, of course, wanted to help, without being able to do so,” he expressed.
There are people who have also been encouraged to donate their own clothing items. Coats, jackets, shoes and warm clothing in general, as well as blankets and other materials that serve to protect against the cold. In fact, several neighbors have approached the collection points to volunteer and dedicate their time to sorting the incoming material.
In any case, the vice mayor has stressed the need to respect the schedule to increase the effectiveness of product management. As reported, neighbors who want to collaborate must prioritize non-perishable foodwater, milk, preserves, infant products, formula and diapers. The organization also highlights the need to receive masks and shovels to facilitate the cleaning work in the affected areas.
The place chosen by the City Council to store and classify everything received is the Crystal Pavilion of the Casa de Campo. Later, the products will be transferred to La Garena, in Alcalá de Henares, so that the Government Delegation can distribute them throughout different areas of Spain, mainly in the Valencian Community. Sanz has insisted on his “complete confidence” that everything collected “will arrive and will also do so quickly” thanks to the work of the Army.
Increase in collection spaces
The vice mayor announced this Saturday that the different police stations in the 21 districts are also enabled to deliver food, cleaning materials and other essential products. In the central district there will be two new spacesone in the north police station and another in the south.
Furthermore, the leader has highlighted that the City Council “is in contact with logistics companies” for the needs that may arise regarding the distribution of aid, as well as contact with the Government delegation to keep up to date of the news at all times.
The City Council also reports on the mobilization of volunteers from cleaning staff and other bodies dependent on the municipal Executive. “I can announce that a contingent of the Municipal Police of Madrid will also leave, with more than 150 troopswith central security units, with 4x4s and with those shovels that we also acquire with Filomena“.
Cranes, sweepers or excavator shovels
For his part, Borja Carabante has highlighted the presence of 69 Cleaning Service operators with heavy machinery, as cranes, sweepers or excavator shovelsto carry out debris cleaning work at DANA’s “ground zero” where there is more waste to remove. As stated, they are “working in coordination with the municipal services of each of the municipalities.”
It is, as explained on social networks by the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, material from conservation centers of regional roads. They join the displaced teams from the Community of Madrid that continue working to locate bodies, and moving loads to access the affected areas. Next to them are forensics and psychologists.
In addition, the autonomous government has two heavy units in preparation and forestry pumps reinforcement of the Fire Department of the Community of Madrid to draw water, while the Canal de Isabel II is ready to repair infrastructure and send tankers.
In the next few hours, 70 workers from the Municipal Transport Company (EMT) will also leave and will travel with 12 cranes that “will collaborate with the services in the area to remove vehicles and trucks that are still on the roads, in the garages and streets of the municipalities of Valencia”.
