One day after the passage of a DANA that has hit Andalusia, Castilla-La Mancha and the Valencian Community and has left 95 victims – for now -, officials from the different administrations in Valencia work in adverse conditions to provide minimum services. This was explained to ABC by a spokesperson for the majority union, Csif, who explains that, in a context of blocked roads, flooded streets, demolished houses and impassable roads, there are many public services that will not be able to be provided well because the centers are closed or because staff cannot access them. In the administration of justice, the union has described the situation as “devastating”, with 50% of judicial districts closed and judicial proceedings suspended. Among the rest of the venues, on the other hand, there are many in which only guard service is provided. In addition to this, Csif has recalled that since the 30th and today, Thursday the 31st, public employees in the Valencian community affected by the effects of DANA firsthand or by the inability to travel have been exempt from attendance at work. Regarding health, the emergency service is guaranteed in all health departments, but many centers are closed. Csif mentions that in the department of La Ribera some do not have electricity and medicines are spoiling. “Some health workers are brought to the centers by the same civil guard and asked to bring water to be able to supply it because there are health departments that do not have it,” explains the union. To alleviate the situation, the Ministry of Health has stated that it is working to refer care for patients in health centers that remain closed and is coordinating with municipalities the possibility of setting up facilities for health care in those places where it is necessary. Extraordinary dispensing of drugs has also been allowed to people who have lost their SIP card and their identification documentation. Another focus of work at this time is at the Institute of Legal Medicine of Valencia, where one of the basements has been converted into a morgue and “the forensic doctors are doing exceptional and superhuman work,” explained Csif. Despite the adverse weather conditions and considering the risks that traveling to the workplace may entail, Csif assures that “attention to those affected and essential services are being guaranteed and reorganized in an extraordinary way” and the staff works to “attend and provide “All the support in everything that can alleviate this dramatic situation.”
