The president of the Confederation of Business Associations of Burgos (FAE), Miguel Ángel Benavente, has assured that his business organization will lead the fight for the reopening of the Direct train between Burgos-Aranda-Madrid, which is “essential” to maintain the industrial leadership.
The president of the Burgos businessmen understands that it is an “essential” infrastructure for the economic and industrial development of the province of Burgos, which is why the FAE wants to assume leadership in the reopening of a railway that they understand, “is essential in the new panorama of railway highways,” reports Ep.
Benavente expressed himself in these terms during the FAE Burgos Industrial Council, a meeting that was held at the Constantia Tobepal facilities, which this year commemorates the 75th anniversary of its foundation. There, he explained that with the launch of corridors between Madrid and the provinces near the French border, Burgos “can have the advantage”. This possibility, he maintained, is “feasible” since the southern corridor between Algeciras and Madrid is already a reality and a new horizon is opening up.
This horizon involves the “electrification of the line” which is in line with the new electrical structures that are going to be renewed on some lines and the Directo “could become part of that electrification”, he stressed. Benavente is also concerned about the state of construction “of other infrastructures”, which are “essential” for the development of the provincial industry.
With them, Burgos must maintain the industrial leadership of Castilla y León, such as the conversion of the Burgos section of the N-120 into a highway between the capital and the Riojan town of Santo Domingo de la Calzada; and above all, the completion of the Technology Park.
The latter is a commitment of the Government of Castilla y León and Benavente understands that “the model must be rethought” in terms of attracting technological industries. In this sense, they have presented to the Deputy Minister of Economy Carlos Martín Tobalina, different proposals to “refine” the type of company that has to be established in that future industrial space, and that must be linked to the electric vehicle and green energies, among others.
The Industrial Council of FAE Burgos brings together 90 percent of companies with more than one hundred workers of the province that invoice 80 percent of the industrial GDP of Burgos.
One of the concerns of Burgos businessmen is the evolution of the national economy and the socio-political situation of the country. At the Council meeting they spoke about “the high tax burden, low productivity, Spanish companies, labor paternalism and absenteeism.”
In labor matters, Benavente has rejected the ultimatum of the vice president and Minister of Labor, Yolanda Díaz, to the Spanish Confederation of Business Organizations (CEOE) so that the reduction of the working day to 37 and a half hours per week is effectively applied. “The Government should not give ultimatums in any sense,” he emphasized, eager to point out that the Executive is committing “clear interference” within the Social Dialogue and “invading spaces” in collective negotiations.
