Almost 8,000 teachers They demonstrated this Tuesday in Madridaccording to the Government Delegation, to demand a reduction in school hours and the ratios, the free choice of working hours, between part-time or continuous, and salary comparison with other communities, among other issues.
The march, which has traveled through the streets of the center of the capital since Neptune until Sun under intermittent rain, was called by the unions of the Sectoral Roundtable (CCOO, UGT, CSIF and ANPE) in early October and, weeks later, the Assembly Less Lessons.
The demands of teachers are not new, but have been occurring throughout the year. This was the second of the four mobilizations called by the unions between the month of October and November, but before the end of last year, in May and June, other marches were also held.
Before the afternoon demonstration, the teachers were called to a general strike in the main cities of the region. The number of teachers who have supported the strike is different depending on who you ask, since The Ministry of Education has estimated support at 18%while the unions have raised the percentage to 70% (76% in Secondary and 65% in Primary).
Regarding the school schedule, which is one of the main demands, The unions want to recover the 18 hours in Secondary, Vocational Training and Special Regime, instead of the current 20 hours, as well as the reduction in Infant and Primary to 23 hours, instead of the current 25.
Isabel Galvín: “Madrid is the only community whose teachers in the Infant and Primary centers have a 25-hour teaching schedule”
The General Secretary of Education of CCOO Madrid, Isabel Galvinhas protested the inequality compared to other autonomies. “Madrid is the only community whose teachers in the Early Childhood and Primary centers have a 25-hour teaching schedule, which is actually 30 work sessions because they are 45 minutes long, and they do not have a single free space in their schedule to to be able to do other types of things,” he lamented.
Unions demand urgent dialogue
The Minister of Education, Science and Universities, Emilio Vicianaand the unions of the Sectorial Table will meet this Thursday to address the aforementioned demands. Viciana has promised these days to present a “very interesting” offer for teachers and has considered the demand to reduce school hours “reasonable.”
In this sense, the president of ANPE Madrid, Andrés Cebriánhas reproached the counselor for the delay in calling them, after the suspension of the meeting scheduled for September 12, due to “overdue agenda reasons”, as argued by Education. “He has had time to unblock the conflict, but he has preferred not to do so and call us after the strike,” he commented, adding that his intention is to “negotiate and be able to reach some type of agreement.”
The representatives of the unions have also taken the opportunity to criticize the counselor’s proposal to include the first and second year of ESO in public schools that have adequate facilities starting next year, a measure for which, they explain, they are not allowed. has taken into account.
The education secretary of UGT public services Madrid, Teresa Jusdadohas expressed concern about this measure because “it modifies the working conditions of teachers.” An opinion that coincides with that of the head of Education at CSIF Madrid, Miguel Angel Gonzalezfor whom the counselor “is constantly creating new problems.”
