The German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, stated this Saturday that the key for Germany to be able to compete with other industrial sites is not to worsen working conditions, but to make work more “attractive” and focus on “quality.”
“German companies are not successful because they can offer cheaper working conditions than competitors in China or Brazil”he assured in a weekly message to citizens, in which he addressed on this occasion concerns about the stagnation of the German economy.
“They are because, thanks to well-trained and well-paid men and women, they can provide the highest quality”he added, while specifying that “the best growth program is to make work more attractive.”
Scholz has launched a dart against the conservative opposition, which he has accused of not showing “respect” for saying that in Germany they do not work hard enough and has highlighted that last year German employees beat a record with 55,000 million hours worked.
“Good working conditions, decent salaries, more employment: this is how we ensure there is more growth. This is how we secure our social system, also for the future. This is how we reinforce ‘Made in Germany'”, emphasized the Social Democratic Chancellor.
In this sense, Scholz has pointed out the importance of improving the supply of public daycare centers to facilitate the incorporation of women into the labor market, since 50% work part time.
In addition, he has expressed his support for measures so that people who lose their jobs shortly before retirement can receive a new qualification or so that those who reach retirement age can continue working voluntarily.
He also recalled that his Government has launched a new immigration law to obtain qualified labor from all over the world.
Finally, Scholz has warned that social aid is not a “guaranteed minimum income” and that “who can work, must do so”, which is why he has defended the use of sanctions against those who “want to abuse our social State.”
