The judge of the National Court José Luis Calama has agreed to investigate a complaint against MEP Luis Pérez, known as Alvise, for a possible crime of illegal party financing for having received 100,000 euros from a businessman for his electoral campaign to the European Parliament.
In an order, the magistrate offers Alvise, given his status as a certified person, the possibility of appearing at the proceedings and testifying voluntarily in court on November 20as well as provide documents, propose investigation procedures and participate in the investigation of the case.
The magistrate also points out in his order that the actions of Alvise Pérez in promoting the allegedly illicit activity carried out through the financial network generated around Madeira Invest Club could give rise to his consideration as a necessary cooperator in the crime of aggravated fraud.
The founder of this supposed financial chiringuito, the businessman Álvaro Romillo —investigated for that alleged scam—, was the one who denounced Alvise, whom he said he had given on May 27, 2024, before the European elections, 100,000 euros for his training.
“Initial plausibility” of the complaint
Judge Calama highlights in his order that businessman Romillo’s complaint was accompanied by documents that “give it initial plausibility,” and affirms that “the necessary requirements are met” to investigate it.
The complaint, to which the order refers, relates the various contacts maintained with Alvise Pérez with the intention that the businessman obtain the promotion of his services and the MEP “could safely and comfortably finance his campaign without state persecution.”
After several contacts, according to the complaint, on May 27, Romillo informed Alvise that he could collect 100,000 euros in cash, to which the latter responded: “100%. You make an urgent part of the campaign possible for me. Thank you very much, man.”
This businessman initially went to the State Attorney General’s Office to report these events and provided an expert report to prove that the messages exchanged between the two had not been manipulated.
The Supreme Court Prosecutor’s Office later sent it to the National Court upon verifying that Judge Calama is investigating several complaints against Romillo, and that they include the facts attributed to Alvise Pérez.
