Gran Canaria receives the largest canoe in its history, with 231 people, 58 of them minors

In the last few hours, Gran Canaria has received the largest cayuco in its history, from which 231 people of sub-Saharan origin have arrived on the island, including 58 minors and 13 women, who claim to have left Gambia eleven days ago.

This has been confirmed to EFE by sources from the emergency services who have offered these people first assistance upon their arrival on the island.

Some members of this expedition, the largest arrival to date in Gran Canaria on a single boat, have also claimed to be from Senegal, Gambia, Mali and Guinea.

Upon arrival on land, by their own means, these people have received humanitarian and health assistance and three of them have been evacuated to hospital centers for presenting minor pathologies related to their sea crossing from Africa, as reported to EFE by 112.

As reported by the Red Cross, this is the largest cayuco to date in Gran Canaria, but not in the Canary Islands, since in the last year there have been some over 250 occupants in El Hierro and even one with 330.

After being alerted that a boat with immigrants was sailing near the coast, specifically 5.5 kilometers from Arguineguín, a rescue boat, the Salvamar Macondo, left this Sunday afternoon to help them, although the cayuco was able to land yes it helps.
