–Banca March is the first Spanish company in a recent ranking of the 100 best companies to work for at European level. How do you achieve something like that?
–In recent years, different consulting firms and publications have placed us among the best companies to work for, both nationally and in Europe. For the fourth consecutive year, we are the only Spanish bank in the European ranking prepared by Great Place To Work. At the beginning of the year, this same firm already ranked us as the second best company to work for in Spain in its Best Workplaces ranking. To obtain certification and access these rankings, in addition to the audit carried out by the consulting firm, surveys are carried out among the entity’s professionals. The bulk of the final assessment is determined by these opinions. According to them, 9 out of 10 professionals think that Banca March is a great place to work.
–Do you think that Banca March’s investment in the training of its professionals, among the highest in the sector, has to do with these results?
–These recognitions are not due to a single factor, but, without a doubt, the importance we give to training is decisive. Our goal is to remain the best training school for private banking managers and business advice. We would not be able to offer our clients exceptional service and high specialization if we did not have extraordinarily trained professionals. Last year we allocated an investment of more than a thousand euros per employee to training, more than double the sector average. This training reaches 100% of our staff.
–And how do Banca March professionals rate it?
–They value very positively that in our business philosophy clients, shareholders, professionals and society grow together. We take care of our professionals and are committed to their job stability and training so that they can grow both professionally and personally. And this translates into greater trust and satisfaction on the part of our customers.
–Let’s talk about Banca March’s business model, what makes it so attractive among professionals in the sector?
–Being a century-old family company, now in its fourth generation, is not the result of chance but of a unique business model based on four pillars: shareholder commitment, specialized advice, superior quality of service and excellent professionals. Joint growth, which is the bank’s motto, involves taking care of our professionals. In a complex sector environment, we are committed to job stability and provide professionals with all the tools so they can have a long and satisfying career with us. All this, together with our solid reputation, clearly differentiates us within the sector and allows us to attract and retain talent.
–How do you create and foster an attractive business culture for professionals?
–The satisfaction rates among Banca March professionals are very high. According to the GPTW study, 9 out of 10 employees say they are proud to work at Banca March. They express feeling identified with the achievements of the entity and motivated with the goals we set. Furthermore, 90% of professionals consider that management runs the business honestly and ethically and 87% say they want to work for many years at Banca March.
–How do you practice active listening to your professionals?
–For us it is essential to measure the climate of the staff. Listening is key to knowing what worries them or what aspects within the organization can be improved. We have climate surveys and formal listening channels that help us detect needs and expectations. In this sense, management after climate measurement is essential, which is what allows us to incorporate concrete measures. In the climate measurements we carry out, we observe a high degree of application of our corporate values, as well as a very widespread, almost unanimous pride of belonging.

–One of the main challenges posed by the current market is the attraction and retention of young talent. How do they face it?
–We aspire to be the best training school for Spanish banking managers. In addition to specialized training and professional follow-up, this is achieved by training professionals from the moment they leave university. Around 14% of the workforce already comes from our Talent Program, which we started in 2013. Since they leave university, we incorporate our future managers so that they develop a long-term career plan with us. Currently, 70% of the people incorporated through the Talent Program remain in our organization and almost 20% have positions of responsibility.
–In today’s society, aspects such as equality or conciliation are of capital importance, especially among the new generations. How does Banca March address these issues?
–At Banca March we have almost 1,400 employees, a large family, with different ages and training, different life moments, different aspirations… It is essential to apply and promote fair treatment and equity among all professionals through equality and conciliation plans. It is about guaranteeing fair and equal treatment, based on meritocracy and equal opportunities, regardless of sex, age, race, gender or political opinions. We have strict controls to ensure this equality and, in fact, specific objectives contemplated in our three-year plan.
