The summary is made by artificial intelligence and checked by a human.
An outdoorsman found an unauthorized mountain bike track in the forest in East Vantaa.
The track is built in a remote forest, and it has caused considerable damage to the environment.
The landowner has reported the track to the police.
The city of Helsinki has made requests for investigations on similar lines in the past.
from Vantaa Matti Viskari came across a surprising sight on his outdoor run in the forest of East Vanta on the border of Helsinki last week.
Several large jumps, covered with tarps, had been carefully built in the remote forest. Under the canopy were chairs, wheelbarrows, shovels and other construction materials.
This could not have been done in an instant, Viskari thought.
“My mouth fell open.”
Viskari wonders if it’s yet another unauthorized mountain bike track that even surpasses the others in size.
HS has written recently, from several unauthorized trick tracks in the capital region, surrounded by forests.
Last year, the city of Helsinki made a request to the police to investigate an unauthorized track located in a forest classified as a valuable vegetation area In Viik.
In the Veräjämäki nature reserve the land has been excavated and embanked illegally to build chutes for mountain biking.
Espoo’s Laajalahti the track is built on fortifications protected by the Antiquities Act.
According to the city of Helsinki, the phenomenon has increased. Although cycling belongs to everyone’s rights just like walking, skiing or picking mushrooms, digging up the terrain and making structures is not allowed without the landowner’s permission.
In practice, however, it is difficult to intervene in illegal land cultivation in nature reserves, said the environmental planner Hanna Seitapuro From the city of Helsinki for HS last year.
“Areas can’t really be controlled, so we try to influence the issue by communicating,” he said.
The popularity of mountain biking has grown, and so has the need for tracks. It has been speculated that the reason for the construction of unauthorized tracks is that there are not many tracks open to everyone in the capital region. So cyclists take the law into their own hands.
For example, in Helsinki, the 16-kilometer mountain bike trail to Keskuspuisto is the city’s only trail open to everyone.
Whisker thinks that the location of the track built in the Itävanta forest was chosen because of its remote location. You can’t get there by car, and it’s hidden from the eyes of passers-by.
“It’s a pretty reckless thing to do if it’s an unlicensed track.”
The track has been built in an area of tens of meters, so it’s not about minor damages.
HS reached out of the landowner of the forest in East Vantaa, who says that the trick track built by the mountain bikers is indeed illegal.
According to him, it has caused considerable damage to the environment.
The matter was reported to the police some time ago, but the track has only grown over the years, says the landowner.
The landowner did not want to comment further on the matter. HS does not tell the exact location of the unauthorized track, so that more enthusiasts do not gather there.
