This story occurred in a school like many, in a high school in Carrara, more precisely inZaccagna Galilei Institute. It is right here that a school worker decides to have breakfast with a simple snack which, unfortunately, ends up costing her dearly.

It is not known what happened, but most likely this snack went awry on the woman who started coughing and turning purple. She was suffocating, there’s no doubt about that, and no one around her knew how to handle the situation.

However, everything changed when a 15-year-old boy, Niccolò R. intervened and thanks to his promptness managed to save the woman’s life. All thanks to one maneuver known as maneuver of Heimlich. A maneuver that the boy had learned at first and which turned out to be fundamental.

The tale of the boy and the janitor

Thanks to this simple manoeuvre, Niccolò managed to save the life of his school assistant, who was on her way suffocating with a piece of food that unfortunately got stuck in her throat. Obviously the boy was described by everyone as great herowhile the janitor considers it hers guardian angel.

This is the demonstration of how prevention and information, even in the youngest, can limit things that if not addressed in time could lead to a very sad epilogue. Obviously everything went well and here are the words that young Niccolò decided to say about what happened.

I had never done something like this, but my mother, who is a nurse, showed me how to do it. I didn’t think about it, I saw the janitor in difficulty, she looked like she was about to die, I approached and practiced the maneuver on her. Immediately afterwards, other collaborators and some teachers also arrived, but in the end everything turned out for the best.
