Sonora.- Clashes between armed groups and authorities were reported this Sunday in several neighborhoods in Ciudad Obregón, southwest of Sonora, according to authorities and local reports.
It was reported that the first shooting that began to cause panic among the residents was the one that occurred during the morning of this Sunday in the Colonia Misión del Sol, located in this town in the Municipality of Cajeme.
Later, the police authorities began an operation with the National Guard, who carried out a chase on the International Highway. “The tactical actions resulted in the arrest of a male, identified as Brandon ‘N’, as well as two vehicles, one of them armored, in addition to long weapons and pistols, which are being processed by the Forensic Services personnel to collect the evidence and turn it over to the Attorney General’s Office (FGR),” explained the ministerial institution.
The municipal Public Security Secretariat confirmed that acts of violence between criminal groups were also reported in the Matías Méndez and Ampliación Alameda neighborhoods.
In videos posted on social media, it can be seen how residents were forced by the shooting to take shelter face down next to cars and trucks, as well as run crouching in parks to avoid being shot. Likewise, it was also noted that a house was shot in the Villa Urbi del Real neighborhood. “The Municipal Public Security Secretariat informs citizens that the news about alleged banners placed in different parts of the city are completely false,” the municipal authority denied about the alert messages in different parts of the city. Ciudad Obregón mainly has a dispute between the so-called Caborca Cartel against “Los Chapitos,” as the sons of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán are known, who are allied in the area with criminal groups such as “Los Salazar” and “Los Cazadores.” Just last week, Grupo REFORMA reported how the fight between factions of the Sinaloa Cartel intensified violence in other states such as Chihuahua or Baja California. In Chihuahua, 11 bodies were found on September 20 in the border municipality of Ojinaga, although the prosecutor César Jáuregui ruled out that the events were related to this dispute between “Los Chapitos” and “Los Mayitos.” In Baja California, a key entity for drug trafficking, at least 15 murders had been reported as of last week.
