The company allegedly made changes to avoid another controversy like the one generated by the same-sex kiss in Lightyearaccording to former employees of Pixar. After the financial failure of this alternate history of Toy Storythey would have sought to prevent the new film from suffering the same fate, fearing a negative reaction from the public.
According to various sources, employees fired after the film’s release said the company asked to make the main character, Riley, appear “less gay.” This included efforts to ensure that the girl’s relationship with Val, a supporting character, seemed purely platonic, avoiding any suggestion of romantic chemistry that could cause controversy. These decisions were reportedly driven by fear of criticism.
In addition, former workers mentioned that the decisions in Inside Out 2 were part of a pattern of censorship within Pixar. They recalled a letter sent where LGBTQ+ employees and allies denounced the removal of the same-sex kiss in Lightyeara scene that was eventually reinstated following staff complaints.
The change in the narrative of Riley sparked discontent among LGBTQ+ fans, who saw a hint about a “dark secret” in the trailer that turned out to be trivial. This situation increased the feeling of betrayal among fans, accusing Disney of attracting queer audiences with unfulfilled promises.
Remember that the tape arrives at Disney+ at the end of September.

Author’s note: Given what happened with the Lightyear movie, it’s likely that they won’t want to bet on those kinds of scenes anymore, at least not to show minors. However, it’s possible that the scriptwriters will talk about the subject later.
