Mara Malavenda’s experience with Rifondazione Comunista
The figure of Mara Malavenda is inextricably linked to the workers’ struggles in the Naples area and to her battles against the monopoly of the confederal unions of Cgil, Cisl And Uil.
In the mid-1990s, Malavenda was elected as an independent on the lists of Communist Refoundationonly to be later expelled from the political group due to her opposition to the advent of the Prodi government. He decided to deny him his trust, subsequently entering the mixed group as leader and founder of the Cobas for self-organization.
“A companion who makes mistakes”he defined it at that moment Fausto Bertinottithen secretary of the PRC.
During the 1999 European elections, his new party was present only in the central Italy constituency, obtaining little more than 4 thousand votesShe was the most voted representative, with 371 preferences.
His name is also linked to important protests advanced in Parliament. For years, he held the record of amendments presented to the Chamber: in 1998, in fact, there were over 170 thousand by the Cobas.
The memory of Vittorio Granillo
The sad news of Mara Malavenda’s passing was given by Victor Granillomember of the national executive of the grassroots union, co-founder together with the trade unionist of the Slai Cobas.
This is his message of condolence:
“Those like Mara who fought to change the rules do not die. She broke the monopoly of the confederal unions, and fought so that in Fiat in Pomigliano women had the same rights as men. She fought many battles, and in recent years thanks to her stubbornness we also obtained sentences that brought European law into the factory. A trade unionist who spent her life for workers’ struggles, and who will therefore live forever in the spirit of those who remain”.
