In Lapland In Kemi, the rescue service has evacuated more than 20 people due to a terraced house fire.
According to the emergency department’s release, the eight-apartment townhouse on Kemi’s Purolankatu is in the stage of full fire.
The rescue service says they have evacuated the residents of the burning townhouse and the neighboring townhouse. At this stage, the rescue service has no information about possible personal injuries.
Firefighter on duty Timo Nyholm said a little before eight thirty on Sunday morning that several terraced apartments have been destroyed in the fire. The terraced house is still in open flames, but the rescue service has been able to prevent the fire from spreading to the adjacent terraced house.
There is currently no information on the cause of the fire.
About the fire a lot of black smoke is formed in the area. A danger notice has been issued to the residential areas of Purola and Karihaara and people are advised to stay indoors and close the ventilation, Nyholm says.
According to Nyholm, the social service is currently organizing alternative accommodation for the evacuees.
The fire department was alerted about the fire around a quarter to six on Sunday morning. There are 13 units of the rescue service at the scene of the fire.
