Hurricane Debbie, which hit Florida in recent days, dragged with it, among other things, twenty-five packages full of cocaine, for a total weight of approximately 31 kg and a value of over a million dollars, causing them to land on the beaches of the Florida Keys archipelago.
The US broadcaster reports this CBS quoting a post posted on social media X by the acting chief of the Border Patrol Samuel Briggs. “A good Samaritan discovered the drugs and contacted authorities,” the officer wrote, also posting photos of the packages.
Due to its geographical location close to the Caribbean, Florida is an important strategic hub in international drug trafficking.
Last June, 29 kg of cocaine were found floating in the ocean off the coast of the Florida Keys. Another 25 kg of cocaine were found a few days ago by divers at a depth of about 30 meters.
In May, a beachgoer found approximately $1 million worth of white powder on a beach in the Florida Keys.
Hurricane Debby has been causing strong winds and storm surges over the past week before being downgraded to a tropical storm.
