The crosses.- The Las Cruces Police Department (LCPD) is investigating a shooting that resulted in the death of a 44-year-old man on the evening of Wednesday, July 31.
At approximately 11:15 p.m. on July 31, the Las Cruces Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to the report of a gunshot victim at an apartment in the 200 block of West Madrid Avenue.
First responders arrived and found a 44-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the chest. The man was transported to a local hospital where he died from his injuries, according to LCPD.
LCPD said they will not release the man’s name until “his next of kin have been notified.”
Preliminary information from the investigation indicates that the 44-year-old man was armed with a knife and attempted to force his way into an apartment.
A 24-year-old resident of the apartment, who was armed with a handgun, fired at least one round that struck the man, according to LCPD. No other injuries were reported.
