Cristina Desciree Arredondo Delgado, 29 years old, was selected to enter the Master’s program in Cinematography at Eicar: The International Film Television School of Paris, in France, where she seeks to fulfill her dream of becoming a great filmmaker and with her work being able to impact the entire world.
The Cuauhtémoc native studied a degree in Languages and Public Relations at the Universidad La Salle (ULSA), where she learned that her career has a lot to do with her passion, which is cinema, which is why, from the Short Film Club, she began to do professional work and even win competitions such as the Chihuahua International Film Festival.
“I was given the opportunity to found the Short Film Club in January 2019, of which I was the coordinator until June 2022. I have always been a great admirer of the seventh art, which is why I never stop studying about it and thanks to the club I had the opportunity to be part of wonderful projects,” she explained.
She was co-director of the short film “Lucero,” which was presented at the Lasallista Art and Culture Festival (FLAC) and the Chihuahua International Film Festival (FICCH). She was also part of the team that made the short film “Voices of Freedom,” which won the “Youth Journalism and Human Rights” competition.
He also had the opportunity to write, direct and produce the short films ‘Un día’ and ‘Poco a poco’, which were finalists in the seventh edition of the ‘Haz corta con la corrupción’ competition, by ‘Líderes Ciudadanos’, open to Ibero-American countries.
In 2020, he was a judge in the INE youth video contest, where they chose the most creative videos that encouraged the active participation of the new generations in the voting. That year, he directed, wrote and produced the short film ‘El club de los inadaptados’, which has a focus on raising awareness about mental illnesses and eating disorders; it participated in the 2020 National Short Film Festival.
Desciree was part of the program taught by Imcine ‘Polos Virtuales 2020’, as a listener, which was very enriching in knowledge and an honor.
On the other hand, his latest short film, which he also wrote, directed and produced, was “Más claro que el cristal”, which won the award for Best University Short Film in the Fiction category at Ficch 2022, and on March 22, 2023, it was part of the university short film showcase at the 2023 National Cortocinema Festival.
Wanting to increase her knowledge and become a professional, in March she applied to be selected from among thousands of applicants to attend the French school, where she was among the 20 beneficiaries, an achievement that she considers was thanks to her interview via zoom with film directors, her portfolio, and the intention of being able to speak English and French fluently.
Her journey to the new adventure will officially begin on October 3, but it will also be a great effort, since she is going with her own resources, and she commented that scholarships are not given before the second year, and are only for the best students, so it is her main goal.
She thanked her mentor, Eduardo Barraza, who taught her a lot about film and whom she considers a great director and filmmaker; her role models are directors Tim Burton and Guillermo Del Toro, whom she admires for their very iconic ways of making films, totally representative, so she hopes to one day be a reference like them. “I love cinema, I love the way I can reach people through stories; that’s why I want to be as professional as I can and create a lot. I want to change the world through my stories,” said the young filmmaker. (Juan Carlos Nuñez / El
