Musetti flies to Wimbledon semifinals, Fritz defeated in 5 sets

First semifinal of a Slam for Lorenzo Musetti, and in the temple of tennis: the Italian makes the transition after beating the American Taylor Fritz, n.12 ATP in 5 sets with the score of 3-6 7-6 6-2 3-6 6-1. The last set completely dominated by Musetti, n. 25, who conceded only one game to his opponent, who also suffered a slight injury on 40-15 of the last game. Jannik Sinner withdraws from Bastad: “I need to take some time to rest”

Jannik Sinner announces with an Instagram story his withdrawal from the ATP 250 of Bastad. The world number one last April 18 had signed up for the Swedish tournament in view of the Paris Olympics that will be played on clay. But now he has preferred to follow the advice of doctors who advised him to rest. “I am sad to announce that I am withdrawing from the Bastad tournament due to fatigue. It is never an easy decision and I would have liked to play,” said Jannik Sinner. “But my team and doctors have advised me to take some time to rest. I hope to be able to play Bastad in the future, I have heard that it is a great tournament!”

Sinner, what went wrong against Medvedev: “Many small things made the difference”

Jannik Sinner in the press conference after the defeat against Daniil Medvedev gave some details about the discomfort that forced him to request a medical time out at the beginning of the third set in the quarterfinal of Wimbledon. Jannik explained the problems he had the night before the match: “I didn’t feel very well and I didn’t rest – the words of the Italian tennis player – when I left the court my head was spinning: it was the most complicated moment but I didn’t vomit and in any case I never thought about retiring”.

In the defeat in the quarter-finals of Wimbledon “many small things made the difference: the level is so high that if you make a mistake you lose the match. Today I had to do many things better and I didn’t succeed. It’s okay anyway: we have to learn from these mistakes”, underlined Jannik Sinner. The number one in the ATP ranking to Sky microphones summed up the defeat against Daniil Medvedev, the first since he officially became number 1 in the world. A match in which he had a small illness, but Sinner does not blame it for the defeat. “Now we have to look at it in a positive way: this year I have lost very few matches. Now I have to rest and be ready for the Olympics. Then for the US Open. For me now only the big tournaments count, the important ones. I came here in great shape, but today it went like this. He played well”.
