Verstappen, a wizard in the wet
It is said that only in wet conditions can the cards be shuffled and the values of the cars overturned. Max’s opponents Verstappenhowever, they have to hope in the dry, because under the water there is only one dominator, and that is the Dutchman.
With the success in Montreal, the three-time world champion rose to seven victories in 18 wet GPs (considering races over the last 40 years with at least 10% of laps on track in which the wet/intermediate tires were faster than those from dry and leaving aside the farce of Spa 2021). A considerable percentage of 38.9%thanks to which Verstappen overtook Michael Schumacherwhich has 36.36% success rate under water.
Ahead of Verstappen there is only Ayrton Senna, dominator of the ranking with ten successes in 18 GPs (and a frightening percentage of 55.56%). In absolute terms, Schumacher leads the standings with 16 victories in the wet (in 44 races), ahead of Lewis Hamilton (13 successes in 39 races) and Senna himself. Verstappen has joined Jenson Button in fourth place at seven.
For Super Max it is also the fourth consecutive success under water after Suzuka 2022, Monaco 2023 and Zandvoort 2023. Counting those GPs in which rain occurred at any time and in any intensity, the Dutchman caught up with Senna (Spa 1985 , Silverstone 1988, Hockenheim 1988, Suzuka 1988): ahead of him are only Schumacher’s six (Montmeló 1996, Monaco 1997, Magny-Cours 1997, Spa 1997, Argentina 1998, Silverstone 1998) and Hamilton’s seven (Suzuka 2014, Silverstone 2015, Monaco 2016, Silverstone 2016, Interlagos 2016, Singapore 2017, Hockenheim 2018
