DOOM: The Dark Ages will also be released on PS5: the new chapter of the famous shooter series developed by id Software will not be an Xbox exclusive and Phil Spencer explained to IGN the reasons behind this choice.
“DOOM is certainly one of those franchises that boast a history on many different platforms,” said Spencer in answering questions from the American newspaper. “It’s a series I believe anyone deserves to be able to play.”
“During a meeting with Marty (Stratton, studio director of id Software, Ed.), a couple of years ago, I asked him what he intended to do and he replied that he would like to bring The Dark Ages to all platforms. Simple.”
A spectacular prequel
Presented yesterday with a first trailer, DOOM: The Dark Ages It stands as a prequelfrom a narrative point of view, compared to the last two chapters of the saga: the setting is that of a dark and violent Middle Ages, invaded by demons who want to plunge the world into hell.
The same DOOM Slayer in the game he appears different, equipped with new weapons such as the shield which becomes a sort of circular saw to literally tear into pieces the many enemies we will find along the way.
The announcement made during the Xbox Games Showcase, however, it wasn’t a complete surprise if we consider that DOOM: The Dark Ages was revealed by a well-known insider in May, and this time too the leak proved to be reliable.
The game will therefore be multiplatform and will make its debut during 2025like many of the titles presented at yesterday’s event.
