Batteries that are too expensive, that’s why Acc has frozen the Termoli giga-factory project
The sector of electric cars is experiencing a moment of uncertainty, with business plans changing rapidly to adapt to an ever-evolving market. ACCa joint venture made up of Stellantis, Mercedes And TotalEnergieshas decided to review its plans, postponing the implementation of giga factory by batteries for electric cars in Germany and Italy.
The decision was made due to the slowdown in the European market in this sector, which saw a drop in demand despite government incentives, which were evidently not sufficient. ACC therefore decided, as confirmed by the CEO himself Stellantis Carlos Tavaresto concentrate on research and development of cheaper batteriesin order to make electric vehicles more accessible to consumers.
The factory Termoliin Italy, has been put on standby and its construction will be discussed again between the end of 2024 and the beginning of 2025. The construction of the factory in Kaiserslautern, Germany, has also been stopped at a later date.
It seems clear that large companies involved in ACCas Stellantisare adapting their investment plans to the pace of sales, trying to balance the need for innovation with the reality of the market.
