Another murder in Mexico. In the aftermath of the election of the first female president, Claudia Sheinbaum, the mayor of Cotija was killed, city in the western Mexican state of Michoacan. Yolanda Sanchez Figueroa – who had already been kidnapped by an armed group last year – was shot dead.
This was announced by the regional government. The region condemned on X «the murder of the municipal president of Cotija, Yolanda Sánchez Figueroa», adding that a security operation is underway to capture those responsible.

In 2023, Sánchez Figueroa was kidnapped in the municipality of Zapopan and then released days later. “To identify those responsible for the accident, a security operation coordinated with federal agencies was launched,” we read on the X profile of the government of the Casabella state of Michoacán.
