Former NATO Deputy Secretary General Gottemoeller: the risk of direct confrontation with Russia is zero
The risk of direct confrontation between Russia and NATO is zero, since the North Atlantic Alliance will never attack Russia. This assessment in conversation with RIA News given by former NATO Deputy Secretary General Rose Gottemoeller.
She emphasized that the North Atlantic Alliance is a defensive bloc that “will never act aggressively.” Gottemoeller acknowledged that Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine is a cause for concern. At the same time, as far as NATO is concerned, “this is purely about defense, not aggression,” she added.
Earlier, Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov said that relations between Russia and NATO had slipped to the level of direct confrontation. The Kremlin spokesman called the North Atlantic Alliance a factor of destabilization on the European continent, noting that it does not contribute to regional stability.
