Game of Thrones ended some time ago but its legacy is felt at HBO which wants to expand the imagination of Westeros as much as possible with new products. After House of the Dragon, the next Game of Thrones spin-off series will be A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Production is continuing on HBO and now George R. R. Martin shared a bit of information about what to expect from this series. Writing on his blog, Martin said the team recently had their first read-through and that it “went great”.
The series, which is based on Martin’s 160-page novelization of the Dunk & Egg series, will be “much shorter” than Game of Thrones or House of the Dragon, he said. There will be six episodes in total. It will also have a “very different tone,” he said. “But he’s still Westeros, so no one is really safe,” she added.
There screenwriter Ira Parker he heads the team making A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, and Martin said Parker and the team are “doing a great job.” He explained that he hopes to visit the set in July. Three of the six episodes will be directed by British director Owen Harris. Martin said he is a big fan of Harris’ work, including his favorite Black Mirror episode, “San Junipero.”
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, when it will arrive and what it’s about
Martin also has confirmed that A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is scheduled to debut in 2025adding that if this spinoff series is successful, there could be more shows based on his Dunk & Egg novellas “Sworn Sword” and “The Mystery Knight.”
Martin also said he plans to write more Dunk & Egg stories, but – and this is a very important thing – not before finishing the next chapter in the main series, The Winds of Winter. A further delay of such a novel could put the sanity of some readers at risk, we believe.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms follows the story of two heroes who roam Westeros. They are the young and naive knight Ser Duncan the Tall (Peter Claffey) and his squire, Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell).
