If a game exists, someone will probably try to make a speedrun of it, and soulslikes are often a favorite genre for speedrunning. Among the most recent soulslike games there is Another Crab’s Treasure and the streaming world obviously immediately started studying the game to achieve record times. At the time of writing the record belongs to spicee, who completed the game in 34 minutes and 37 seconds.
The result was an improvement over previous attempts, and these days, the content creator is vying for the top spot with another streamer, LilAggy. The two are stealing the world record attempt after attempt and therefore it is possible that in the space of a few days their result will be improved and that what you see below is no longer the world record.

If you want to understand how the speedrun works, the best thing would be to see it all, but we understand that some people don’t have half an hour to dedicate to the video.
The key details to note are as follows. First of all, speedrunners they use a small glitch in the game which allows – using a charged attack – to launch the character forward. This brings more benefits and not just the obvious time saving while travelling. The forward launch basically allows you to maintain the character’s vertical position for longer, so as to avoid certain obstacles in an unexpected way and skip certain sections of the game. Speed is then maintained by rolling with the shell and taking advantage of the small glides that the character is able to perform.
The speedrun obviously then is one “any%”, that is, it only asks you to get to the ending without any need to defeat all the bosses or obtain certain upgrades. So players try to avoid all non-essential bosses. One way to avoid them, in addition to jumping beyond their arena, is to use the shell release to make the character jump outside the boundaries of the area (which is also useful in other situations for passing through maps).
However, some fights are mandatory and therefore players must still perform in perfect battles, using parries and some power-ups recovered at specific points in the game (so the path to follow must be very precise). Finally, the final boss must be defeated in a regular manner and a few mistakes are enough for a game over.
