Everything indicates that Nintendo got tired of paying a high price for using the X (Twitter) API. Starting June 10, 2024, direct integration from the Nintendo Switch Image Album to X will no longer work.
What happens if Nintendo stops using the X (Twitter) integration?
The feature to post screenshots and video to X (Twitter) from Album in the Nintendo Switch HOME Menu will no longer be available.
Although posting screenshots and videos on Facebook is still available, it is possible that this service will stop working in the future.
The option to post Super Smash Bros. Ultimate screenshots from the Nintendo Switch HOME Menu album in Smash World in the Nintendo Switch Online mobile app will also not be available. Posting functions for Splatoon 3 and Splatoon 2 will also be adjusted.
The three console manufacturers remove the option to share screen natively to X
In accordance with Wired, last year access to the cheapest Enterprise API plan of the social network X or Twitter starts at $42,000 per month. Higher levels can be priced between $125,000 and $210,000 per month. It could be something not so expensive for a large brand but it is something that they do not see any benefit in.
In April 2023, Microsoft was the first console manufacturer to withdraw integration with X. Months later, in November of the same year, Sony did the same.
Of course, you can still send Nintendo Switch screenshots to X. Only now you’ll have to do more steps. For example, you can send Switch album images to your smartphone wirelessly or transfer them to your PC using a USB cable. Then publish them manually.
