Director Matt Shakman shared that the approach to storytelling in the new film will be radically different than previous adaptations, drawing heavily from the extensive comic book canon Marvel.
Matt Shakman and the statements on the plot of The Fantastic Four
Although we still don’t know much about the plot of the film, Matt Shakman talked about some choices made in writing the film. In 2023, the director stated:
It’s different in so many ways. I wish I could be specific. I wish I could say more. But we’re doing things very differently story-wise and in our directorial approach, which really fits the source material a lot.
I wish I could say more. Really, but I can’t. But I think it’s going to be something we’ve never seen, and certainly something you’ve never seen in Marvel.
As regards the works and the fact of the strikesMatt Shakman said:
We worked tirelessly. Despite the strikes, yes, we worked with effects and production design, building our world, and it was incredibly exciting.
How can you translate those skills (from the comics, ed.) into a film with real actors in a dynamic way? Because some things that work very well in the works of John Byrne and Jack Kirby are slightly harder to do in a film.
How do you make sure things are exciting but also grounded in the science aspect, which is part of the Fantastic Four that I love?
