Two more months and, finally, the veils will fall from the RB17. We are not talking about a single-seater, but about the Red Bull Hypercar designed by Adrian Newey and his team in the Red Bull Advanced Technologies department.
The Milton Keynes facility announced this morning that the long-awaited car will be presented at the Goodwood Festival of Speed which is set for 11-14 July. The veils, however, will fall on the 12th at the Cathedral Paddock and the car will remain on display for the entire duration of the festival.
For Red Bull it will be a great opportunity to celebrate its twentieth anniversary in Formula 1 with a car designed, built and developed entirely within the Milton Keynes factory, therefore, at home.
The car is a two-seater with a carbon monocoque, a semi-compressed V10 central engine and a carbon fiber gearbox that drives the rear wheels. The name takes up that of the single-seaters with which Red Bull won the Drivers’ and Constructors’ titles in Formula 1.
The goal of Newey and his collaborators was to create a car with a refined design and top speeds that promise to be breathtaking (the data offered by the team speak of over 350 km/h). The car will be produced in just 50 examples.
To celebrate the event, Red Bull will also display other iconic cars from the energy drink producing brand that have made recent racing history at the Cathedral Paddock. Among the Red Bull guests there will be David Coulthard, 13-time Formula 1 GP winner and former Red Bull driver, but also Patrick Friesacher, long-time exhibition driver for the team managed by Christian Horner.
“We are thrilled to debut the RB17 to the public for the first time and couldn’t think of a better world stage than the Goodwood Festival of Speed,” said Christian Horner, team principal and managing director of Red Bull Racing and Red Bill Advanced Technologies.
“The RB17 exudes rarity and engineering excellence. We’ve channeled everything we know about racing into creating an extreme performance car, and we can’t wait for the public to see the result.”
“I am equally excited to bring such an amazing selection of cars and drivers to the iconic festival and can’t wait to celebrate our 20th season in front of such passionate motorsport fans.”
