Microsoft announced a new Xbox controllers (more of a new design), called Fire Vapor Special Edition. Nothing strange so far, except that the headline used caused an uproar, so much so that it was removed. For what reason?
The Fire Vapor Special Edition is part of the Vapor series, which also includes Stormcloud, Dream and Noctunal. In this case the element evoked by the design is that of fire. The headline to launch it, however, clashed strongly with the announcement of the closure of some Xbox Game Studios. What was written there? “Feel the Burn Today with the Fire Vapor Special Edition Controller”, which we can translate to “feel how it burns today with the Fire Vapor Special Edition Controller”.
Many found it simply inappropriate and of very bad tasteconsidering the loss of jobs of many people and the trauma of the end of much loved companies such as Tango Gameworks and Arkane Austin, which were considered safe given the company’s recent statements.
The controversy
Of course, whoever created that headline is not at fault, since it’s easy to imagine that it was written days ago and that the department that deals with controllers didn’t know about the upcoming closures. Let’s say it was a unfortunate eventthat is, an association made spontaneously by users to a decision that caused a sensation.
Microsoft ended up changing the headline by replacing it with a more generic and improvised one, which simply announces the new variant of the controller. Naturally, on the internet everything ends up being preserved and the discussions are not yet dormant:
Like all Xbox controllers, the Fire Vapor works with Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. You can also use it to control Xbox games streamed on mobile via Bluetooth connection. Purchasing the controller also nets you a dynamic wallpaper exclusive to the console. The price of the appliance is $70 and is sold exclusively by Microsoft Store.
