The National Biosecurity Committee held its second meeting for the year 2024 and discussed a number of important topics to enhance biosecurity in the UAE, and stressed the continuation of efforts to combat mosquitoes, especially in the wake of the exceptional climate event that led to unprecedented amounts of rain in the country.
The committee also reviewed the “Epidemic Preparedness Map” and the “National Biosecurity Framework.” Her Excellency Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al-Dahhak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, chaired the second meeting of the National Biosecurity Committee, which was held virtually.
During her speech, Her Excellency Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al-Dahhak stressed that the UAE places its biosecurity among its most important priorities, which is embodied by working through an integrated system that includes creating the legislative structure, laws and decisions regulating this matter.
Her Excellency said: “We are working as one team to provide sustainable national biological security in all the emirates of the country, and we attach special importance during this period to efforts to combat mosquitoes and limit their spread, especially in light of the repercussions of the exceptional climatic conditions that the country has recently experienced, and to take everything necessary in cooperation with All concerned parties achieve this goal, while ensuring the continuity of control work in the long term.”
Her Excellency Al Dahhak thanked the members of the National Biosecurity Committee and all the work teams, saying: “We thank you for their continuous and distinguished efforts in enhancing the biosecurity of the UAE and working as one team to ensure sustainable biosecurity at all times.”
The meeting discussed a number of important topics in the field of biosecurity in the UAE, namely developments in the implementation of the “National Biosecurity Framework 2023-2032” by working to accelerate the implementation of the requirements of the framework in coordination with members of the Executive Committee for Biosecurity regarding a number of important files.
The meeting also discussed the “Presentation of the Epidemic Preparedness Map Project”, where work is being held to hold an introductory workshop on the uses of the Epidemic Preparedness Map project for the technical teams of the concerned and relevant academic bodies, and coordination with the Cybersecurity Council and the National Data Center to analyze the current situation to develop programs and link between the agencies in order to ensure Readiness and information flow to decision makers.
The meeting of the National Biosecurity Committee also discussed ways to enhance mosquito control in all the emirates of the country through continuing monitoring of mosquitoes and their places of spread and breeding, and implementing control operations in coordination with the relevant authorities in all the emirates of the country, while educating the public to contribute to the success of mosquito control and prevention work and assisting in Limiting its spread through sustainable behaviours.
The meeting was attended by Mohammed Saeed Al Nuaimi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, Major General Jassim Mohammed Al Marzouqi, Commander-in-Chief of Civil Defense at the Ministry of Interior, Brigadier General Engineer Saeed Nasser Ahmed Al Kaabi, Commander of Chemical Defense at the Ministry of Defence, and Dr. Hussein Abdul Rahman Al Rand, Assistant Undersecretary for the Health Sector. General at the Ministry of Health and Community Protection, and Engineer Alia Abdul Rahim Al Harmoudi, Assistant Undersecretary for the Sustainable Communities Sector at the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment.
The meeting was also attended by Mohammed Ahmed Al Kuwaiti, Director General of Ports Security at the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security, Rashid bin Mohammed bin Rassas Al Mansouri, Executive Director of the Livestock Sector at the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority, and Dr. Marwan Ali Al Kaabi, Acting CEO of Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City – Pure Health Company, Dr. Naseem Mohammed Rafie, Acting Executive Director of the Environment, Health and Safety Foundation in Dubai Municipality, and Hamad Saif Al Kaabi, Director of the Hazardous Material Incidents Department at the National Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Authority.
The meeting witnessed the presence of Badriya Omran Al Marzouqi, Director of the International Security Cooperation Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Engineer Khalfan Abdulaziz Al Suwaidi, Director of the Natural Reserves and Enforcement Department at the Environment Agency in Abu Dhabi, Saeed Al Mahrezi from the Ministry of Interior, and Muhammad Nasser Al Qubaisi, Director of the Dangerous Materials Department in the Weapons and Dangerous Materials Office. , Ibrahim Mal Allah Al Hammadi, Head of the Dangerous Materials Regulation and Development Department in the Weapons and Dangerous Materials Office, Hajar Al Ketbi, Director of the Government Communications Department in the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, and Ibrahim Hassan Al Dhanhani, Director of the Environmental Disasters Department in the Ministry.
