Argentine star Lionel Messi set an unprecedented record in the American Professional Soccer League, after he scored one goal and made five assists, leading his Inter Miami team to sweep the New York Red Bulls 6-2.
Messi, who won the World Player of the Year award eight times before, set three records during the match by contributing 6 goals, including 5 assists, and the 5 goals he made came in one half.
Messi, who won the Player of the Month award in April, succeeded in scoring and assisting goals in six consecutive matches.
Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez, Messi’s former partner in Barcelona’s Spanish attack, scored three hat-tricks, and Matías Rojas added two goals for Inter Miami.
Messi and Suarez share the top scorers list with ten goals each, giving Inter Miami the lead in the Eastern Group with 24 points.
