Sassuolo renewed its victory over its guest, Inter, who won the title, with a goal, and inflicted a surprising loss, the first, after 28 consecutive matches in the Italian Football League, at the opening of the thirty-fifth stage.
Inter suffered only its second loss this season, after the one it lost to Sassuolo in particular 1-2 in the sixth stage on September 27, 2023.
Sassuolo owes its victory to Frenchman Armand Lorient (20), who scored his fifth goal in the league this season.
Inter’s balance froze at 89 points in the lead, while Sassuolo raised its balance to 29 points in the nineteenth-penultimate position and revived its hopes of survival, as only two points temporarily separated it from three safe positions.
Loriente opened the scoring with a wonderful shot inside the area after receiving a pass from Scottish Josh Doig (20).
Inter did not pose any significant threat, as he only had one shot on goal during the first half, with Turkish Hakan Calhanoglu on the bench.
Before the end of the half, Argentine Lautaro Martinez thought he had equalized the score with a shot to the left of the goal, but the goal was canceled due to offside, after returning to the video assistant referee “the mouse.”
Coach Simone Inzaghi tried to strengthen the attack, and brought in Colombian Juan Cuadrado, Austrian Marko Arnautovic (60), then Nicolo Barella, and Canadian Tajon Buchanan (69).
Arnautovic tried once, and Barella almost scored on a second attempt, but the defense blocked their shots (82 and 87).
The champion team with the strongest attack was unable to hit a single shot on goal throughout the second half, in light of the great defensive discipline of the home team. Thus, Inter failed to score a goal in a league match this season for the first time.
