Today, one of the most successful sessions of the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair, which was launched under the high patronage of the leader of the blessed march, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, may God protect him, concludes in our beloved capital today.
The 33rd session of the exhibition, which was held under the slogan “Here…tells the stories of the world,” was a distinguished and exceptional session by all standards due to the volume of activities, attendance, and great interaction with them, which confirms and embodies the great and qualitative level achieved for the ancient exhibition thanks to the generous support it enjoys from our wise leadership. And the care and attention she gives to writers and people of culture.
Between the exhibition halls and activities, we could sense the meaning of books and culture being a bridge for cultural, human and cognitive communication between peoples and different cultures of the world.
This year’s edition of the exhibition witnessed the participation of 1,350 publishers from 90 countries, including 140 houses participating for the first time.
The Egyptian participation in this year’s session also enriched the exhibition’s activities, which celebrated as a guest of honor the sisterly Arab Republic of Egypt and its intellectual, cultural and creative statures, most notably the late great writer Naguib Mahfouz.
The exhibition has established its position as a global platform for dialogue, culture, thought and creative industries, as an extension of its enlightening role as a beacon of intellectual and creative radiance from the emirates of love and giving that has made culture an essential axis and a cornerstone in building the conscious, cultured human being.
The launch of the exhibition came a month after the UAE concluded the National Reading Month, which is considered one of the most important national events to consolidate this important cultural act among generations, as it is an authentic entry point for building minds and fortifying thought from values that are alien to our society and a victory for the Emirati values rooted in openness to others, human cultures and civilizations.
In the same context, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, may God protect him, announced that the Arab Reading Challenge is the largest Arab project, which is sponsored by His Highness. In its eighth session, it witnessed the participation of 229,000 schools from fifty schools. A country and 28 million students.
It is the Emirati vision that believes – as His Highness said – that reading can change lives, create different generations, and will open the doors of science and civilization.
Finally, all thanks to the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Center, the organizers, the volunteers, and everyone who made the exhibition’s activities a success story that we narrate to the world.
