The Attorney General’s Office in the state of Baja California, Mexico, said in a statement that authorities found three bodies at a site where there were reports of missing tourists, including an American and two Australians.
The Attorney General’s Office had previously announced that Australian brothers Callum and Jake Robinson (33 and 30 years old) and American Carter Rudd (30 years old) were last seen on April 27.
The office added in the statement late yesterday, Friday, that a government laboratory will undertake forensic examinations of the bodies in order to determine their identities.
The statement added that investigators continue to search the rugged area where the bodies were found, searching for additional evidence.
The three men were on a surfing vacation near the popular tourist town of Ensenada, about 90 minutes south of the US-Mexico border.
A US State Department spokesman said in response to a question about finding the bodies, “We are aware of these reports and are monitoring the situation closely.”
A spokesman for the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs also stated that his country’s embassy in Mexico is working closely with the Mexican authorities and the Australian Federal Police.
