Milan, Inter Scudetto nightmare in the derby
Perhaps the saddest derby in the history of the Rossoneri hearts is ready to go on stage: a Milan-Inter which, however it ends, will not change the mood of the people deviled. Losing would mean officially handing over the 20th scudetto to the Nerazzurri cousins, with the party starting before the eyes of the AC Milan public. The draw would be a no-brainer (after 5 consecutive derbies lost) which would change little in the season’s balance sheet. And the victory against their old rivals, usually a source of joy, however will not bring much relief to a fan base severely affected by the results of recent weeks. The goal of the championship has been lost for some time (even in a championship in which Pioli’s team maintains a high points average and second position in the standings) and what’s more he will go to Inter, the Italian Cup having evaporated almost immediately (quarter-final against Atalanta 1-2 at San Siro), the Champions League ended early (third in the iron group) and the consolatory dream of winning the Europa League was shattered in the double match against De Rossi’s Roma.
From now until the end of May it will be a small ordeal for those who love Milan: mathematically gaining qualification for the next Champions League (almost nothing is missing) and finishing second (with qualification for the next final-4 of the Italian Super Cup) are certainly not goals that can lift the mood of the fans.
Milan, the fans’ nightmare: derby-scudetto to Inter? No, Lopetegui (or Fonseca) coach
And if this state of mind is ‘perceived’ (euphemism) on social media, another one emerges from reading the comments on the web: anxiety over the choice of the new coach (Stefano Pioli towards his farewell, among other things rumors about Napoli for him).
It’s no secret that the majority’s favorite would be Antonio Conte (who is still free and therefore there would be room to convince him to join the Rossoneri wedding): a choice that would give energy and enthusiasm to the whole environment, dreaming of a comeback next season and revenge against Inter.
Thiago Motta (on whom Juve is in the front row if the divorce with Allegri arrives) would be a compromise that many would willingly accept: emerging, charismatic coach, whose work with Bologna is there for all to see.
However, the rumors about foreign leads are causing concern. First and foremost Julian Lopetegui (for which there is strong interest from West Ham, an important economic proposal on the Spanish coach’s table): his football at the helm of Spain is good, good work at the helm of Wolverhampton, but the dismissals with Real Madrid and Porto, in addition to the one against Sevilla (where he still won a Europa League) does not leave the Devil’s fans calm (the hashtag… #lopeteguiout has popped up on Twitter). And the rumors about Fonseca bring no less reliefLille coach who has already worked in Italy at Roma.
At the moment, however, we are talking about rumors (among others: from Sergio Conceição to Marcelo Gallardo to the former Rossoneri Mark Van Bommelpassing through Xavi and suggestion De Zerbi who however has a millionaire clause to leave Brighton), rumors and working ideas.
In these hours Gerry Cardinale is in Milan and will take stock with his team: CEO Giorgio Furlani to director Geoffrey Moncada, as well as Zlatan Ibrahimovic on the future of the team and its technical leadership. After listening to everyone’s ideas, his word will obviously be the decisive one on the path that Milan will take in succession to Stefano Pioli.
Beyond the choice linked to the new coach, RedBird’s number one has made it clear in recent hours that he has ambitious plans for his Milan: “I have just arrived and I have no intention of selling, my goal is to build a company that is both solid and successful – the words of the American manager to Il Sole 24 Ore -. Financial solidity and autonomy are necessary conditions to win in a healthy way competitions. Milan has extraordinary margins for growth in sporting performance and enormous margins for economic improvement.” And again: “There are no talks with any investor who could obtain control or governance of Milan. I think I will stay in Milan for a long time.”
