More points equals more money for the FIA
In recent days there has been much debate in Formula 1 about the possibility of introducing a new scoring system which leaves the distribution of points for the first six positions unchanged, but which reward the mid-group teams morewidening to first 12 classified instead of the top 10. The idea is finding general consensus within the paddock, given that it would not change anything for the strongest teams but would instead guarantee a greater chance of emerging for the 'second tier' teams.
Chandhok's suggestion
It therefore seems probable that the new system will actually come into force from 2025. But more points awarded also mean more money for the federation, given that the teams' registration fee is based on the points won in the championship. This is where the former pilot's proposal comes from Karun Chandhoktoday an appreciated commentator for Sky Sports UK. On Twitter/X the Indian commentator suggested a very concrete use of the additional money that would arrive at the FIA in the coming years if the new points award system were to actually come into force.
“Here's an idea: extra income that the FIA gets from these teams earning points they should be used to hire permanent stewards to ensure consistency [nei giudizi] – wrote Chandhok – instead of relying on a rotation of volunteers. Their job is difficult and it is not possible for four different people to have the same opinion on an accident. At leastif they are always the same four, we will have coherence“. The topic of the race commissioners and their evaluations was back in the news during the weekend of the Chinese GP, where penalties abounded with as many as five drivers having points deducted from their Superlicence.
