Several journalists could find themselves in situations similar to the Fagnani case: what is happening
New problems on the horizon for Francesca Fagnani in the case which sees her as the protagonist of a possible violation of the code of ethics of journalists. Yes, because it seems that during its broadcast there were misconducts that would be against what the code prescribes with the references for the deontology (i.e. the professional and ethical correctness) of a journalist. What would have happened?
The president of the Order of Lazio, Guido D'Ubaldo, has in fact confirmed the accusations made by Strip the News to Fagnani, declaring that the performance of expensive designer jewelry during transmission Beasts on Rai2 could constitute a violation of article 10 of the Consolidated Law on Journalist Duties.
For several months now, people have been paying attention (a lot, almost obsessively) to the jewels and accessories they wear on stages, on broadcasts, in public television. Certainly not a new “trend”, but an attention which, starting from the Sanremo Festival and the Travolta case, has multiplied the cases and violations found. Violations that would give visibility to brands and objects to a large audience (then whether this audience notices or understands what objects they are about remains to be seen!).
The article affected by the report prohibits journalists from “lending their name, voice and image for advertising initiatives”. According to D'Ubaldo, the Fagnani case presents similarities with that of Lilli Gruber, already sanctioned by the Disciplinary Board with a warning for similar conduct, but on La7. In this case, however, the situation is worsened by the interview given by Fagnani to Stripin which he admits to wearing jewelry by a specific brand.
The journalist, during the broadcast of Strip, had defended herself by claiming that she saw nothing wrong in receiving and wearing the jewels for free, which she then returned. However, for D'Ubaldo this practice still applies a form of advertising, unacceptable for a journalist who must maintain his credibility and respect the code of ethics. The president of the Order declared:
We must try to be credible and respect the journalists' code. I hope that this case does not send the wrong message, because we have also sanctioned young colleagues who advertised as influencers through social media.
D'Ubaldo also raised the issue of other journalists who may find themselves in similar situations, inviting them to report any cases of contracts with brands which could compromise their professional independence.
