Tonight, 26 April 2024, at 9.20 pm on Rai 2, Diabolik, a 2021 Italian film directed by the Manetti Bros, will be broadcast. The film is the film adaptation of the comic of the same name created by Angela and Luciana Giussani, and sets the focus on the first meeting between the famous thief and his partner and accomplice Eva Kant, which took place in the third book of the original series, The Arrest of Diabolik. This is the second film adaptation for the character, after the 1968 film of the same name directed by Mario Bava. But let's see all the information together in detail.

Plot

Clerville, 1960s. The city is terrorized by a thief as ruthless as he is elusive. Nobody knows his identity or his face, only his nickname Diabolik is known and the only certainty is that anyone who has anything to do with him dies. Unbeknownst to everyone, Diabolik lives under the identity of Walter Dorian in an elegant villa in the company of his girlfriend Elisabeth Gay, totally unaware of her double life and who believes he is often absent for unspecified “business reasons”. One day the beautiful and rich Lady Eva Kant arrives in town, bringing with her a precious jewel, the Pink Diamond, which Diabolik soon sets his sights on. While Lady Kant is staying in the best hotel in the city, Diabolik decides to attempt the coup: he kills and replaces the waiter that the manager had placed at the woman's service and manages to enter her suite, but just as he opens the safe he is caught in the act by Lady Kant, and after holding a knife to her neck she, not at all terrified, informs him that the diamond is fake. She sold the original some time ago, along with many other things, to pay off people who were blackmailing her because they had compromising information about her. Diabolik doesn't believe her but Eva, in response, challenges him to have him examined. Incredulous and irritated, Diabolik takes her jewel, warning her that if she tried to deceive him he would come back to kill her. On the other hand, Eva asks him to bring her diamond back once the fake has been confirmed, because she needs it for her social events (not wanting to give rise to rumors about her real financial situation). Having returned to his hideout, Diabolik examines the jewel and realizes that Eva has told him the truth: the stone is a fake, albeit of exceptional workmanship.
