Volkswagen is also participating in the 2024 Beijing Motor Show. And it does so with a world premiere: that of the new one ID. TAILSa concept car that offers a preview of the German brand's completely new generation of SUVs, which will feature a new design language and a new technological era. Not surprisingly, the new ID. CODE is the first model in the world whose lines embody the new Volkswagen SUV design.
Volkswagen ID. TAILS
And it is no coincidence that Volkswagen has decided to celebrate its world premiere at the Beijing Motor Show: the German giant itself has made it known that this concept car was designed jointly by the teams in China and Europe, and represents a tribute to Chinese Volkswagen customers. “The ID. CODE offers a first look at Volkswagen's future in Chinawith a new design language, a new technological standard and a comprehensive brand experience specifically geared to the needs and wishes of our Chinese customers – said Thomas Schafer, CEO of Volkswagen – In this way, together with our Chinese partners, we usher in a new era of mobility in China.”
New era of design
Exterior and interior combine perfectly on this concept car. In terms of design, the vigorous wheel arches that frame the door surfaces stand out but also the reinterpretation of the iconic C pillars of the first Golf, created as D pillars in the ID. TAILS. Then there is no shortage of interactive lighting systemswhich give this concept car with Horizon Blue paint what VW defines as “an almost human touch”: the reference is to the Light Cloud, the 3D-Eyes and the Light Screen, all interactive lighting systems that provide information and communicate in a intelligent with the surrounding environment.
Level 4 autonomous driving
The interior of the new ID is also newly designed. TAILS. In this sense the watchwords are technology and, if we want, automation: both because the sensors, exterior design and interior configuration of this concept car were conceived for level 4 autonomous driving, and because VW has developed an AI-based avatar that communicates with the driver and passengers via displays mounted both on the both outside (thanks to the Smart Window) and inside the vehicle. All this goes perfectly with electrification: Volkswagen says that the systems and drive are powered not only by a lithium-ion battery, but also by a photovoltaic system integrated into the transparent Energy Roof.
