More points earned
The positive momentum continues Haas and in particular of Nico Hülkenbergwhich with the Chinese Grand Prix completes his third race of the season in points area in the first five events of the 2024 world championship. After 10th place in Saudi Arabia and 9th in Australia, the German driver crossed the finish line again in tenth position in Shanghai, with this result which brings him to a total of 4 points in the world championship standings and in 13th place behind Oliver Bearman, reserve driver of the US team who replaced Sainz in Ferrari in Jeddah.
More than 200 GPs without success
Behind the satisfaction of this performance, however, there is a negative record: that of greatest number of GPs contested without a victory achieved. With 208 races in Formula 1, Hülkenberg thus equals the late Andrea De Cesarispresent in F1 from 1980 to 1994. Unlike the German, who also lacks a presence on the podium, the Roman finished 5 GPs in the top three.
The top-10 prize
Regardless of this statistic, Hülkenberg commented with satisfaction on his performance: “My race was flawless and clean – he has declared – I think it was well managed and controlled by the team. It's a positive result and I'm very happy about it: we got that point that was up for grabs today. One of the cars from the top five teams had a problem, otherwise it would not have been possible to compete with them. This also shows that we needed a perfect qualifying on Saturday and a perfect race on Sunday to be able to be in the top-10. We couldn't have done more. A point, in our world, is a lot“.
One stop race
Different story for his teammate, Kevin Magnussen. In difficulty all weekend, the Dane finished at 16th place after a strategy that didn't bear fruit and after a contact with Tsunoda which further ruined the race: “Honestly it just wasn't our day – He admitted – I started 17th after a bad qualifying on Saturday and we suffered the consequences. Sometimes you can recover, but we haven't succeeded. We had attempted a one-stop strategy, but we had to give up because the degradation was too high on the hard surfaces. As soon as I came out with the new hard tire, I got a puncture because of the accident with Yuki and I had to pit with the medium. On the positive side, the car works well, it seems to have good pace.”
