About three years ago i source codes Of Cyberpunk 2077 and of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt they were stolen. Until now, however, no one had been able to find the password to open them. The feat was accomplished by the HelloKitty ransomware group, which returned to the scene as HelloGookie precisely to publish the files obtained. It wasn't long ago that some people tried to compile them, with excellent results too.
As noted by Reddit user u/Custer_Vincen, the passwords to open the archives were posted on 4Chan.
In reality, this is a very late move, at least as regards the possible economic repercussions. CD Projekt Red has in fact promised that by the end of the year it will publish the REDkit modder tools for The Witcher 3, which will allow you to produce highly advanced mods, giving access to every aspect of the game. It probably went worse with Cyberpunk 2077 but, given the age of the stolen build, we don't think there is anyone interested in playing it.
Some fans have suggested that CD Projekt Red make the source code of the two games open source, given the abandonment of the Red Engine for the Unreal Engine 5. This is unlikely to happen, considering that we are still talking about two games that continue to sell more than well. Of course, by having access to the source code, modders could really make a splash, but evidently the number of people interested in this aspect of theft is limited.
Having said that, the risk of piracy is also very relative. Consider that both games are on sale on GOG DRM-free. So, anyone who wanted to steal them could do so without problems right away.
