Increased levels of drought in Mexico behind the first heat wave reported in the country according to the With water.
The first heat wave in Mexico ends today, April 20 according to the National Metereological Service of the With waterdue to the weakening of the anticyclonic circulation at medium levels of the atmosphere.
However, this anticyclonic circulation caused, since April 11, an increase in the levels of drought according to With waterwell increased to 11.01% the levels of Exceptional Drought (D4), against 1.23% that was registered last year around the month of July.
At the levels of Extreme Drought (D3) 29.34% was recorded this April 15, which is still lower than September 2023, which was 31.63%, however, there is concern that this year has not yet ended and is increasingly closer to overcoming the drought of 2023.
In the case of Severe Drought on April 15, 2024 it was 46.59%, and the strongest in 2023 was also in September at 55.79%.
He Drought Monitor of Conagua highlighted that the areas with extreme to exceptional drought (D3 to D4) were in Guanajuato, Querétaro, San Luis Potosí and Veracruz, from severe to extreme (D2 to D3) in Sonora, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León, Tamaulipas, Sinaloa, Durango, Aguascalientes and Michoacán, from moderate to severe (D1 to D2 in Nayarit, Tabasco and Chiapas, and from abnormally dry conditions to moderate drought (D0 to D1) in Guerrero and Oaxaca.
It is expected that in Mexico there will be three more heat waveswhich would occur from the end of April to June, so it is recommended to follow the instructions of the With wateras well as Civil Protection and Firefighters authorities of each state.
