McLaren looking for redemption
In Suzuka there McLaren it disappointed expectations. Having made a strong start in the 2023 race which saw them second in strength behind Red Bull, the Woking team confirmed that they were behind Ferrari even on a “friendly” track. It is a small alarm bell: certainly not as big as those heard in Mercedes, but which still advises caution in view of Shanghai.
The China race, when Formula 1 returns for the first time after the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic, will probably see a McLaren in defense due to a not so favorable circuit layout. Lando himself says it Norrisas usual very sincere in his pre-race statements.
Norris's words
“It's been a while since we last raced in Shanghai, so I can't wait to go back. The last race was a bit difficult, but we still managed to score some more points. We took some time to learn from Suzuka and prepare for the China weekend“, commented the Briton to McLaren channels. “It will be nice to see what we can do with the Sprint weekend. The different sessions make it more interesting for everyone. Maybe this is not a circuit that suits us, but we are ready to do our best once again“.
Piastri's words
Caution also for Platesat its premiere in China: “It's a new track for me. Being the first Sprint weekend of the season, it will be very important to try to make the most of the first test session to familiarize yourself with the track. I tested the car on the simulator at the McLaren Technology Centre, but obviously it's different when you go out on track. We hope to be able to collect more points for the team and have a positive weekend“.
