“More than one overtaking was not wanted”. Marc Marquez to the microphones of DAZN Spain with this phrase he summed up a tightrope walk contested with an unpredictable front brake which ultimately betrayed the Ducati Gresini rider just when he had gained the lead of the race.
Marquez before ending up on the ground due to dry conditions front closure when the brake was activated – not on the first attempt – he had already risked ending up on the ground several times in the previous laps. The Catalan rider collided with Jack Miller at the exit of Turn-11, losing a piece of carbon from his fairing and then hit the rear wheel of Jorge Martin's Ducati with his front wheel at the last corner when he tried to catch the interior of the compatriot.
Who knows if this last maneuver is among thoseinvoluntary' that Marquez talked about post-race. At that point Marquez had previously overcome Jack Miller's KTM, so it was not an 'isolated' maneuver during the race by the Gresini team bearer who got the better of Francesco Bagnaia on two occasions in the same point at the end of the snake that characterizes the first sector of the Austin track.
“It was a fun race because I basically had to go up twice – added Marquez – the sensations were good, but I had a lot of problems with the front brake which often 'went down'. This was the first race on Sunday where I was really fighting for the top positions. Now the goal is to maintain this speed to be constant.”
