Jorge Martin arrives as leader at the third stage of the 2024 MotoGP season, the Grand Prix of the Americas, where he has never achieved great results, even if the Spaniard is confident in his chances.
“I'm very happy with how the season has started, we're doing an excellent job. The goal is to do better than previous years: last year I struggled on this circuit, but it's a challenge due to the level of the opponents. I'm confident and I am in excellent physical condition, which is very important on this track. I hope to be one of the best this weekend.”
The solid position in the standings after the victory in Portugal does not change the Prima Pramac Racing rider's plans. “Austin has never been a good circuit for us, but Portimao wasn't either and this year we managed to get the win,” said the Spaniard.
Now that he has gained more experience, Martin explained the problems he had at this circuit last year.
“Last year I wasn't fit, I had a fever and took antibiotics, I wasn't well. Now I'm fit and comfortable, I think we can do well, but we'll see Marc Marquez with the Ducati, Pecco Bagnaia who is also strong on this track, Bastianini… they are all strong and with a strong bike”, referring to the Desmosedici GP.
“The favorites this weekend are the Ducati riders, not only for the bike, but also for the type of riders they are. A good challenge awaits me with many opponents and we will do our best.”

Regarding Bagnaia's mistake on Sunday in Portimao, with the crash together with Marquez, Martin understands that not being in front is a problem nowadays.
“The only weakness he had could have been that he wasn't able to go to the front and wasn't able to come back from behind. It's complicated, if you don't start well and don't have a perfect weekend from Friday you can mess up everything,” he argued.
Another novelty of these two weeks without races was the announcement by Yamaha of the renewal of Fabio Quartararo. “I was a little surprised, because he comes from some years of suffering, but he will have his reasons and I'm sure that he has confidence in the project”, he added.
Finally, Martin was asked about his future, as his contract expires at the end of the season.
“I'm trying to look ahead. It's not in my hands, I've already handed it over and now Ducati will decide what to do. Then we'll see.”
As for the still open possibility of Pramac leaving Ducati and joining Yamaha, Martin admitted he hadn't heard of it at all.
“This is the first time I've heard this,” he said surprised. “At the moment I feel more attached to Ducati than to Pramac, and it's been like this for my entire career. Everyone knows my priority, it's still early, I hope to be able to move to a factory team, even if Pramac were to change the bike I don't think so. to stay here.”
Another current news is the purchase of Dorna by Liberty Media, the company that owns Formula 1.
“I think it's great news for MotoGP, I spoke with Carlos Ezpeleta and he was very happy. And if he, who is a very intelligent boss, is happy, it's definitely a good moment for MotoGP”, was his assessment.
