A new feature will highlight contacts on our list that we “neglect” and with whom a lot of time has passed since the last conversation.
WhatsApp, the most popular mobile messaging platform in the world, certainly needs no introduction.
Billions of users use it daily to exchange messages of various types, maintaining direct communication with their own contact list.
Precisely remaining in this perspective, in its most recent beta version for Android, WhatsApp has introduced a new feature called “Suggested Contacts“, designed to encourage interaction by connecting users with the people in their address book with whom they have not yet communicated or have communicated little.
This new approach aims to encourage conversations and increase the already vast interaction of its community.
For new interactions
According to what reported by WABetaInfo, the update that introduces the new function would be identified in the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.9.5, currently available on the Google Play Store.
Inside this, users will find a additional section in the chat list, as shown in the screenshot above: positioned at the bottom, it will offer users a convenient way to access possible new interactions by proposing new chats at the bottom of existing contacts, without disturbing the current order of conversations.
It should be noted that this type of suggestions will be present right from the initial registration phase of a new user on WhatsApp, making use of the numbers saved in the address book.
This shows that, more than a simple function to remind us of contacts with which we have had little exchange, its main purpose is to encourage the creation of new connections and conversations.
There's also some for iOS
As regards the iOS platformWhatsApp is exploring shortcuts to optimize user experience when sharing multimedia content.
In version 24.7.75 for iPhone, a new method was introduced for Quickly access your image library, although it wasn't explicitly mentioned in the official changelog. Users can now access this feature by pressing and holding the “Attach” button in the chat bar, as shown in the screenshot above. This feature is likely to be gradually enabled server-side over the next few weeks for users who have not yet received it.
All these new features, currently only available in the beta version of the application, will probably be extended to a wider audience in the coming weeks.
Those participating in the testing phases can simply update the app through the respective Store to verify the presence of the new functions within the app itself.
Meanwhile, WhatsApp continues to develop new features aimed at improving user engagement and interaction.
These include the expanded ability to pin messages in chats and a new photo editor powered by artificial intelligence.
