The new municipal offices on Clemente Gosálvez Street will begin to have some life two years after the building was purchased. In a first step, the City Council has ordered the installation of two municipal services: the Consumer Services Office (OMIC) and the Community Prevention Unit for Addictive Behaviors (UPPCA).
The works, whose investment has amounted to 48,000 euros through a minor contract, has involved the reconditioning of the entire ground floor space, including the installation of a new lighting and internet network. The only thing left to do is put in the new furniture, which is expected to be purchased in a month. Precisely, the City Council is currently processing a contract for the acquisition of new furniture for municipal offices.
The Municipal Consumer Information Office (OMIC) is currently located in the Periférico City Hall of La Mata and the Community Prevention Unit for Addictive Behaviors (UPCCA) will finally have its own space in Clemente Gosálvez. Thus, it is planned that the psychologist and the social worker who make up this service will move to this building to continue developing their work of information, advice and talks.
Both units are being promoted by the Department of Public Health, Prevention and Health Promotion and Consumption. The councilor of this area, the oncologist Rosa María Cañón, and the mayor, Eduardo Dolón, visited this Wednesday the results of the conditioning work.
For 10 workers
The ground floor for the new municipal offices on Clemente Gosálvez Street can accommodate up to 10 workers, with two offices, 6 positions in the common area and 2 positions in the reception area, as reported by the City Council.
The building, for its part, was acquired by the Torrevieja City Council in 2021 through an operation that cost 622,000 euros. The property, which consists of three floors, is located in an unbeatable location, since it borders the interior of the block with the City Council headquarters, in the Plaza de la Constitución.
Connection with the City Council
The local government estimates that connecting both properties, completely renovating Clemente Gosálvez's and adding an attic would cost 577,000 euros. Previously, the building, apart from private homes, housed a stationery store and, more recently, a premises for the Torrevieja Carnival Cultural Association and a municipal aid collection point for those affected by the war in Ukraine.
In recent years, the government team has chained several purchase and sale operations that have increased the municipal real estate assets. The objective is to reduce the money that the City Council pays to house the different municipal services that are currently in rented premises. Such is the case of the Census and Statistics offices or the Local Development Agency. Both leases are being paid through invoices that are paid with omission of the intervening function as there are no contracts in force.
On the other hand, the refurbishment of the multipurpose building on Avenida de las Habaneras is pending, which was initially built to house the Holy Week Museum. The City Council is also studying what use to give to a listed historic building it owns on Azorín Street, in front of the old Posada del Parejo.
